I find this a very interesting concept. It reminded me of the duality between neurotic perfectionism (being your harshest critic as you’re seeking validation) and productive perfectionism (being tough on yourself for yourself, motivated by growth). I find this exercise in training your mind an interesting experiment in productive perfectionism, although it sounds counter-intuitive at first. But perhaps only by ‘failing’ our images of self (deliberately), we will be able to move away from future self-sabotage, and in turn, grow.
